Privacy Policy

CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "Business Card Scanner Pro" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the Service handles, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you agree to the handling described in this policy.

1. Our Core Principle

Business Card Scanner Pro is an app that scans business cards, reads their text, and organizes them as contacts. No account or sign-in is required, and your card data is stored on your device. We do not operate any server that receives your card data, and we never collect or store the following information:

  • Images of your business cards and the text read from them
  • The details printed on the cards, such as names, company names, phone numbers, email addresses, and addresses
  • Customer-management information such as notes, tags, interaction history, and next contact dates

2. Scanning Cards and Reading Text

The card scanning screen and the QR code scanning screen are shown by ML Kit (Document Scanner and Code Scanner) from Google Play services. The app itself has no camera permission; it only receives the images that were captured.

Text recognition (OCR) uses ML Kit text recognition and runs on your device. Card images and the text read from them are never sent to us or to Google. The language data used for text recognition is downloaded once by Google Play services.

To provide and improve its features, ML Kit may send Google statistics about how the APIs perform and are used (these do not include card images or the text read from them).

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information Collected Automatically

  • Anonymous crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, we collect technical information such as the stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version. This does not include your card data or any personally identifiable information.
  • Purchase / license information: We use purchase tokens issued by Google Play to verify your purchase. We never receive any payment information such as credit card numbers.

3.2 Information Stored Only on Your Device

  • Card data: Card images, the text read from them, card details, and customer-management information such as notes, tags, and interaction history are stored on your device. They are erased when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data.
  • App settings: Settings such as the recognition language, display, notifications, and app lock are stored on your device.
  • Backups and exports: If Android backup is turned on, your card details (not the images) and settings are included in the backup to your Google account, which is managed by Google. The app's daily backups are kept on your device. If you choose a folder (such as Google Drive) for backups, export to vCard, CSV, or ZIP, or share data, the data goes only to the place or person you choose.

3.3 Information We Do Not Collect

  • The contents of your device's contacts (the app never reads your contacts)
  • Location information such as GPS coordinates
  • Call logs, SMS, or calendar
  • Photos or images other than the ones you choose

3.4 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes

Business Card Scanner Pro uses the following permissions only for the stated purposes:

  • Notifications (Android 13+) — Used to remind you of next contact dates, birthdays, and anniversaries. Requested only when you set up these reminders.
  • Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — Used to schedule your reminders again after the device restarts.
  • Write contacts (WRITE_CONTACTS) — Requested only when you save several cards to your device's contacts at once. Saving one card at a time simply hands the details to your contacts app, so this permission is not used. The app never reads your contacts.
  • Biometrics (USE_BIOMETRIC) — Used, if you turn on the app lock, to confirm your identity with your device's screen lock (fingerprint, face, PIN, etc.). The app never receives biometric data.
  • Internet (INTERNET) — Used to send crash reports, verify purchases, show this policy, and download the list of our other apps. It is never used to send your card data.

The list of our other apps is downloaded from our server. The server receives only the network information that any web page view sends (such as your IP address).

4. How We Use Information

The limited information we collect is used only for the following purposes:

  • Operating and maintaining the Service
  • Verifying purchases
  • Diagnosing and fixing crashes
  • Responding to support inquiries
  • Complying with applicable laws

5. Third-Party Services

Business Card Scanner Pro uses the following third-party services. Each service has its own privacy policy.

  • Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) — anonymous crash diagnostic data
  • ML Kit (Google LLC, Google Play services) — the card scanning screen, QR code scanning, and on-device text recognition
  • Google Play Billing — payments are completed on the store platform side

We never sell your data.

6. Data Retention

  • Crash reports: retained for 90 days, then deleted.
  • Data on your device: erased when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data. Cards moved to the trash are deleted automatically after 30 days, and the app's daily backups are deleted oldest first once there are more than 7.

7. International Data Transfers

We are based in Japan. The infrastructure used for crash diagnostics may be located in various countries. When you use the Service, the minimal information described above may be processed outside your country of residence under standard contractual safeguards.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you reside (e.g., the EEA, UK, California, Japan), you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the limited information we hold. You can:

  • Edit or delete your card data at any time in the app, and export it to vCard, CSV, or ZIP
  • Uninstall the app or clear the app's data to erase the data on your device
  • Contact us at the address below to make a request regarding the information we hold

9. Children's Privacy

Business Card Scanner Pro is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age applicable in your region). If we inadvertently collect information from such a child, we will delete it promptly upon being contacted.

10. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The latest version is always published at this URL together with its effective date. We will also notify you within the app of significant changes where appropriate.
